Technology Insight 3: SINTEF Energy Research's oxy-fuel combustion research facilities

28/07/2021

In our third Technology Insight, scientists at SINTEF Energy Research in Norway introduce us to the state-of-the-art reactors and other facilities being used for NEWEST-CCUS research activities.

SINTEF Energy Research’s work in NEWEST focuses on the use of oxy-fuel combustion technology as an effective means of enabling CO2 capture from waste-to-energy. The innovative nature of this combustion method requires the well-controlled laboratory-scale reactors described in the bulletin as well as fuel preparation facilities and a range of analytical instruments.

The experimental data collected will be used to develop models for designing a first-of-a-kind, large-scale oxy-grate furnace.
